I hold the Mother

My Philosophy:

As a postpartum doula, my primary purpose is to nurture and support families as they embark on the transformative journey of parenthood. I believe in fostering an inclusive and compassionate environment that honors the unique experiences, identities, and needs of each family.

I recognize that the postpartum period is a time of profound change, both emotionally and physically. My approach is centered on ensuring that all parents—regardless of their backgrounds, identities, or feeding preferences—feel supported and empowered. I prioritize the mental health and well-being of both parents and their baby, understanding that a thriving family unit begins with the emotional resilience of its members. By actively listening and providing empathetic support, I aim to create a safe space where parents can express their feelings, share their challenges, and celebrate their successes.

In addition, I am committed to providing practical assistance with lactation and bottle-feeding goals. I believe that feeding choices are deeply personal and should be respected, whether families choose to breastfeed, bottle-feed, or a combination of both. I offer guidance and resources tailored to each family's preferences, helping to dispel myths and provide evidence-based information that fosters confidence in their feeding journey.

My overarching philosophy is rooted in collaboration and respect. I strive to empower families to trust their instincts, make informed choices, and cultivate an environment that promotes attachment, bonding, and overall well-being. Together, we can navigate the joys and challenges of this precious time, honoring the diverse ways in which families nurture and care for one another.

"Linnell was great! Helped us so much in the transition to become new parents, from advice, to tips on calming the baby, and helping us sleep between feeding stretches. She helped us triple feed and follow the pediatrician’s orders. She was also awesome about remembering any adjustments or requests we had! Checked in on both my mental health and also my partner’s, which was very nice especially in the immediate postpartum period. She kept a running list of my baby’s activities during the night – from wake periods, poops/pees, and how much he would take from the bottle. She was great about offering advice and letting us make the decisions. Overall, a very sweet, calming, and accommodating doula. She really tries to go above and beyond to make sure the whole family feels taken care of (including my pup)!"

"Linnell is a great doula! We used her for the first few weeks after our second came home as well as invited her on a family trip. She came over and supported us during the baby's witching hour to allow us time to give our undivided attention to our oldest as we transitioned to a family of four. Those first few weeks were hard on her and being able to have bedtime with both parents was priceless. She also helped with overnight feedings and sleep to allow me and my husband some much needed rest. On our family trip, she spent 24/7 with us for 4 days. She helped us with everything. I trusted her which allowed us to enjoy our vacation 100%. She has so much knowledge from prior experience and school that she shares when needed but also listens without judgment to what choices we as parents want for our baby. she is respectful, empathetic, caring, and patient. I would recommend her services to anyone!"

Enhancing Your Postpartum Journey

Being your postpartum doula, whether during the day or night, my primary goal is to ensure that you feel supported, educated, and empowered. Together, we can create a positive and nurturing environment for you and your baby.

By focusing on your mental health and providing a network of support and education, I’m here to make your postpartum journey as gentle and positive as possible.

What I do not do as your postpartum doula:

I do not stay awake all night

My goal is to create a supportive and restful environment, but:

  • I do not stay awake the entire night unless specifically agreed upon
  • When the baby is sleeping and my tasks are completed, I will rest, but I am always in tune with your baby's needs.

I am not a Nanny or babysitter, I am a postpartum doula

While I fully support parents having date nights and I am willing to extend hours one night a week for parents to do so, I am not a nanny or babysitter. My role is to support the birthing person, their partner, and the baby.

I do not provide full-time care for older children

Although I can offer occasional assistance with older children:

  • I do not act as a nanny or full-time babysitter
  • I am not responsible for the primary care of older siblings but I will take care of them while you take a break or focus on your newborn

I do not do any deep cleaning

I help with light household tasks to ease your daily load, but:

  • I do not perform deep cleaning tasks
  • I do not handle yard work or heavy household repairs

During daytime postpartum shifts, I will preform light cleaning tasks.

For overnight shifts, I will only clean bottles and pump parts, and wash and fold the mother and baby's laundry.

I do not do Medical Tasks

While I can provide general knowledge and support:

  • I do not administer medications or medical treatments
  • I do not conduct medical examinations or treatments
  • I do not diagnose health conditions or perform clinical procedures

I do not make decisions for the family

I empower you with information and support but:

  • I do not make parenting decisions on your behalf
  • I do not impose my personal beliefs or methods on your family

As your postpartum doula, I am here to support and guide you through the postpartum period. However, it’s important to understand the boundaries of my role to ensure we have clear and realistic expectations. Here’s what I do not do:

Understanding My Role as Your Postpartum Doula

My goal as both your daytime and overnight postpartum doula is to provide you with the emotional support, practical assistance, and educational resources you need to thrive during the postpartum period. By understanding the boundaries of my role, we can work together effectively to create a nurturing and supportive environment for you and your baby.

If you have any further questions about what I do or do not do, please don’t hesitate to reach out. I’m here to support you every step of the way.
